Overview

About the SILQ

Introduced in 2018, SILQ was conceived as a chair that could behave more like an organism than a machine. Steelcase developed a high-performance polymer structure that mimics some of the responsive qualities of carbon fiber, allowing the chair’s frame itself to flex as the user moves. This eliminated many of the traditional mechanisms found beneath high-performance task chairs and resulted in an unusually thin, elegant silhouette. SILQ is more about intuitive movement and visual refinement than maximum manual adjustability.

What to Look For

Because much of SILQ’s performance comes from the chair structure itself, inspect the frame carefully for cracks or damage. Test the natural flex and recline, check the gas cylinder, and make sure the chair feels symmetrical when loaded.
